How much does it cost to clean an area rug?

How Much Will It Cost To Clean Your Area Rug?

Before a true professional area rug cleaner can accurately tell you how much it will cost to clean your area rug, there are several factors they need to know first:

  1. The size of your area rug
  2. What your area rug is made of (synthetic, wool, silk or other natural fiber)
  3. Any particular spots or stains (wine, food, grease, oil, etc)
  4. Any pet stains or odors (may need to have a full decontamination bath)
  5. Signs of moths? (all four stages of the moth life cycle must be removed before any cleaning can happen - the rug cleaner cannot risk infesting other rugs)

Is Your Even Rug Worth Cleaning?

Sometimes the cost of cleaning your area rug can actually be more than what you paid for the rug itself.

Which brings up the question of whether or not your rug is worth cleaning.

So as area rug cleaning experts with over 30 years of experience and seeing this question come up thousands of times...

...here are a few things customers just like you needed to consider before letting price make the decision for them:

  1. Does the rug match already your decor? Sometimes it can takes weeks, if not months, to find the perfect rug to match the decor in your house. The amount of time and money you would need to invest to find the new rug could easily end up being 10 times more than what it would cost to have the one you've got cleaned.
  2. Will your old rug just end up in the landfill? If you have an inexpensive synthetic rug you bought from a big box store, chances are a landfill is where it will end up when you get rid of it. If you are environmentally conscious and care about the world you live in, it may be better to have it cleaned instead of thrown out especially if the rug is still in good condition.
  3. Does the rug have sentimental value? Memories are irreplaceable which means a rug that holds special meaning to you is invaluable. We once had a customer who brought in a 3'x4' rug which was just a section cut out of an old carpet from the floor of her grandmother's home. That carpet was the most precious belonging our customer owned because it held all the memories of the woman who raised her when her own mother abandoned her.
  4. Is it your pet's favorite rug? We once had a customer come in with an old tattered rug worth nothing and reeking of pet accidents. The customer said their dog was old, had many health problems and wouldn't live too much longer. This rug he brought in was his dog's favorite and it wasn't going to be worth it to replace it until the dog passed on. So he chose to keep cleaning it until his most faithful companion of 15 years was no longer with him

Old, torn, 9×12 moth eaten Persian rug made to look NEW again

While visiting my son, recently, he asked, with a chuckle, if I wanted an old, nearly fringeless, 9×12 Persian rug from his great-grandfather’s house.

It had holes an inch across, similar sized moth eaten patches and moth eggs littering the surface.

My son was joking and about to put it in the garbage but, I jumped at it!

I love restoring things and knew if it could be done that Luv-a-Rug was the place to take it.

The poor thing had probably never been cleaned properly.

The colours came up so vibrant and all the major damage has been repaired, seamlessly.

The cost was reasonable, I thought, and now the rug is worth several times what I paid. The beauty, not the value, of family history is the important thing.
