How to vacuum a shag rug

Are you trying to figure out how to vacuum a shag rug?

I'm not surprised because lots of people are having trouble getting them clean.

Modern Shag rugs need a lot of extra vacuuming and care.

They may look great, feel soft and fit your decor perfectly, but the way they're constructed means they're going to need a lot more attention than an ordinary rug when it comes to cleaning them.

What makes a shag rug so desirable - the long, long fibers - is also what makes it a bit of a nightmare to clean. Those long fibers make it impossible for a normal revolving brush to get all the way down to the foundation.

So what happens is the shag rug traps dirt and debris where only bugs, rodents and pets with a digging fixation can only get at it.

But there is hope! By using one of two attachments that come with your vaccum, you can actually make cleaning your shag rug all the way down to the foundation a whole lot easier.

And in the videos below you'll see exactly what those attachments are how to vacuum a shag rug with them.

Version 1

Version 2

Easy right?

Now if that seems like a bit too much work or  you're not the type who has the patience for that kind of thing, then there is an easy alternative.

Just bring your shag rug to Luv-A-Rug where it'll be professionally cleaned and looking so good you'll fall in love with it all over again.

How often should you get your shag rug professionally cleaned you ask?

Well the answer depends on how much traffic it gets. If you walk on it nearly everyday then probably it's best to bring it in every 6 to 9 months. If you only have a light amount of traffic going on it then maybe every 12-15 months.

Best Vacuum for Shag rugs (and every other floor covering in your home)? This one!

I spilled a thick, full 8oz. glass of blender drink on my new shag rug

I had just moved into my new home, purchased a lovely shag rug for my living room.

3 weeks later I promptly spilled a thick, full 8oz. glass of blender drink on it. It took me hours to try and get the stickiness and smell out of it, and I do know how to do that from prior work with carpets. It took 2 days to completely dry with fans etc. The end result was not good, because it still smelled somewhat and I knew it would attract dirt like a magnet right from the get-go, as you could still feel the difference in texture compared to the other part of the rug.
I called Love-a Rug, Dusty had me bring it in right away. Even though he was swamped with current work with flooding damage to many other clients rugs, he was able to get mine back in a very short period of time. It was like the spill never happened. like new again.
I am exceedingly grateful for such good work, and now I have a place to go to for the next cleaning.
I do highly recommend Love-a-rug, and witnessed several other people picking up their finished rugs, they also were happy customers.
Thanks Rusty and your crew.
