A Little Girl, The Love of a Grandmother And The Unforgettable Wave

How A Precious Memory Was Restored By A Simple Wave Of A Hand

Before my mother was able to tell me the news, huge tears began spilling down on to her cheeks.
If you knew my mother at all you’d know she’s not one who’s easily moved to tears.

Whatever happened, I knew it had to be bad.

Really bad.

“What’s wrong?” I asked, “what happened?”

My mom tried several times to talk but the words just wouldn’t come out.

After several minutes of tear filled hugging, my mom was finally able to reveal in a weak, shaky voice, that her mom - my grandmother - had just passed away.

The moment I heard those words, the entire world around me disappeared.

My mind instantly transported me back to a time when I was seven years old in my grandmothers house and sitting on her favorite Persian rug.

That rug is where her and I would sit and play games, have indoor picnics on rainy days and where she would read me stories or tell me about all the things that happened in her life.

I spent a lot of summers with my grandmother on that rug. Every time I see it, a feeling sweeps over me like soft warm hug.

A few weeks after hearing about my grandmother, I discover that I inherited her rug. Somehow my grandmother knew I would be the only person who would love and take care of it as much as she did.

She was right.

There’s nothing else in this world that made me feel closer to my grandmother than that rug. When I went to pick it up I saw it had some pet stains, frayed edges and some moth damage. So I took it to the only place I felt would care about my rug as much as I did - and that was Luv-A-Rug.

I immediately knew I made the right decision coming to Luv-A-Rug. The owner, Dusty Roberts, came out to my car as I was parking and then carried the big rug in for me.

“This is a beautiful Persian rug you brought” Dusty told me, “this particular piece is known as a Sarouk and they’re the epitome of beauty and opulence in Persian rugs. Do you mind me asking where you got this spectacular rug?”

The Summers With My Grandmother

That’s when I told him the story of spending all those summers with my grandmother. How she recently passed on and how I was fortunate enough to inherit it.

“I’m so sorry to hear about your grandmother” Dusty said, “I’ll fix this rug so you’ll love it just like you did when you were a kid. I’m really honored you chose us to restore it for you.”

“Are you kidding?” I blurted out, “you’re like the only place who actually loves rugs. In fact, you just reminded me of a memory about my grandmother I forgot all about until now.”

Luggie and Luv-A-Rug

The Unforgettable Wave

That’s when I told the story about all those times I saw his mascot “Luggie” wave at me whenever my grandmother would drive us into town to go shopping.

“Every time we would get into the car to go shopping, I begged her to drive by Luggie so I could wave at him. Sometimes she would tease me by saying no and then drive by Luggie anyways. You know it’s funny, after all those years of Luggie waving at me, I just realized he’s as much a part of my childhood as this rug.

“And then when I read about what you’ve done for all the seniors, refugees, schools and charities, you guys proved to me you’re the only ones I would ever trust to care for a rug that's filled with precious memories of my grandmother.”
