How Long Will It Take To Clean Your Area Rug?

So, your dog made a really nasty mess and now you want to know how long will it take to clean your area rug?

Dear Dusty,

I have a hand knotted Persian rug I inherited from my mother a few years back. It’s a gorgeous Isfahan rug with a beautiful pattern over an ivory background.

My dog made a mess all over my area rug and now a large section that was once ivory is a nasty mix of yellow and brown (if you get my meaning).

How long will it take for you to clean this rug so it looks like nothing ever happened to it?

Owner of a messed up Isfahan

Dear Isfahan owner...

You know, I wish I could tell you it’s like getting a new pair of glasses…
Where it would be ready in under an hour.

Boy if that were possible, I’d open up a café next door to serve you the finest coffee and baked goods on the planet while you wait!

But alas, I haven’t invented the technology to achieve that kind of speedy result (yet).

I HAVE however invented quite a few machines and tools for my industry to get your rugs so spectacularly clean…

You cannot help but fall in love with them all over again – especially after suffering through the kind of mess you’ve described.

So before I answer "how long will it take to clean your area rug" let me me describe our process so you'll understand why it takes as much time as it does.

Now to get your Persian Isfahan the kind of clean where you’d swear it looks like new again takes time.

I mean anyone with a steam cleaner can get the surface of an area rug clean – which is what a lot of in-home carpet cleaners do.

Oh and all those carpet cleaners who “claim” to clean your rugs at their facility?

They really only steam clean the surface but just charge you more for that. They don’t have the equipment, knowledge or experience to properly wash a rug all the way through like we do.

How do I know?

Because whenever a carpet cleaner gets in trouble with rug – they all bring them to me to fix.

What kind of trouble?

The kind of trouble where their steam cleaner made the colors of a natural fiber rug bleed so what was once white or ivory is now pink.

Or they didn’t inspect the rug properly and notice moths weakened a section so their machine sucked up the fibers along with the dirt leaving behind an ugly bare spot.

So you can see that properly washing your Persian rug is not like throwing it into a washing machine and popping it on hot.

No. No. No. No. No.

It needs much more care so it not only looks good but will last for a few more generations.

This is why we have a 6 stage cleaning system.

First we carefully inspect your rug to look for any problems, issues or areas of weakness so we can match the proper cleaning method to it.
Next we remove all the dry heavy abrasive soil before water even touches the rug and turns it into mud.

Then we move on to next stage where the rug gets washed from the front, the back and all the way through using our special RugLover cleaning solution that’s meant for natural fibers, is completely safe and environmentally friendly.

After your rug is washed, we rinse it with fresh water and then place it into our centrifuge to remove the water. The centrifuge is a lot like the spin cycle of your washing machine where it spins the excess water out of your rug.

But while it’s in the centrifuge, we add fresh water then spin it again – and keep repeating that process until the water that comes out of the machine is completely clear.

Next we hang the rug up to dry. Once dry, we carefully inspect it and if it doesn’t meet our standards, we run it through the whole cleaning cycle again.

So you can see it’s quite an involved process and with all the other rugs we’re washing you’re usually looking at about two weeks but many times we get it done sooner – depending on how busy we are.

Now you know "how long will it take to clean your area rug".
