During International Nurses Week Luv-A-Rug once again finds a way to reach out and help others who need it most.
Pictured below is a young Filipina girl of 17.
Her name is Francine. She lives in the Philippines with her mother and two brothers, one of which is in a wheelchair.
Francine and her family are much healthier after 2 years of Canadian support. She is now ready to go to nursing school so she can pull her whole family out of the poverty trap forever.
They all live in one room house with a leaky roof that allows toxic mold to constantly grow on the ceiling and walls no matter how often they try to remove it.
Francine’s mother does her best to support her family but she only makes 350 pesos a day (approx $8 CDN) when the hotels in the resort town they live in have work available for her.
Living in almost extreme poverty means malnutrition is their greatest threat.
Yet despite everything going against Francine, she has a dream of becoming a nurse in Canada so she can take care of her family and provide them with a life and home she cannot give them there.
That is why Luv-A-Rug has set up a Scholarship Fund during International Nurses week.
