How to get rid of moths in your area rug

  • Vacuum the back and the front of your rugs every month if they do not have a special moth treatment on them (more often if possible). This will help remove moths in any of the four stages of life they go through: adult, eggs, larva & cocoon
  • Discover how to spot moths, eggs, larvae & cocoons by watching the video on this page (Luvarug.com/moth)
  • Make sure you check under any furniture that may be on top of a rug, especially your couch.
  • If you see moths on one area rug BE SURE to check all your other rugs. Moths always look for new places to lay their eggs
  • Do not bother using chemical sprays on your rugs to get rid of moths. Those products tend to be toxic to kids and pets and don't always get at the eggs buried deep in the rug fibers
  • If a pet had an accident on your rug during Moth Season, get it cleaned immediately. Pet urine acts like a high powered beacon to moths and they are attracted to it like a shark that smells blood a mile away
  • If you find moths in your rugs bring them immediately to Luv-A-Rug so we can remove them and repair any damage they may have done
  • Once a year have Luv-A-Rug apply a special non-toxic treatment on your rugs that is safe for pets and people but guaranteed to repel moths

How To Spot Moths and Moth Damage In Your Rug

WHY Moths Are Attracted To Wool Rugs With Pet Urine On Them

Moth larva need certain organic dust, spills, and wool to survive.

They do not drink liquids so any food or drink spilled onto the rug along with the natural fibers it is made of (i.e. wool, silk, etc.) will provide the nutrition it needs.

HOWEVER, the combination of pet urine on rug fibers is exceedingly rich in the nutrients a moth larva craves and as a result will do serious damage to your rugs.

Pet urine acts like a high powered beacon to moths and they're attracted to it like sharks are to blood.

And since a female moth can lay anywhere from 50 to 100 eggs at a time, it won’t take long for a major problem to occur if left untreated.

That's why Luv-A-Rug recommends if you have any rugs that are important you, make sure that you have any pet accidents professionally cleaned as soon as possible.

We inherited some Persian rugs that were moth infested

We have used Luv-a-Rug twice now-the first after we inherited some Persian rugs that were moth infested, and more recently for cleaning after finally getting our puppy house-broken.....need I say more?

Both times we were very happy-the rugs came back clean and fresh, and we also took advantage of their moth treatment service to prevent further damage. These people are passionate about rugs and provide great, friendly service. We definitely recommend them.
